GEM Inc. is seeking a Safety Specialist to join our team in our Walbridge, Ohio location. As a member of our safety team, you will be responsible for supporting and assisting company associates in achieving safety excellence by helping to identify existing and potential safety risks on current and upcoming projects, providing training, and performing site visits to verify that safety regulations and company policies are consistently implemented company-wide. This position will travel 2 to 3 weeks per month.
• Assists in the development and enforcement of the Âé¶¹´«Ã½ safety program.
• Assists management with championing the Âé¶¹´«Ã½s safety policies and procedures.
• Provides technical safety advice, coaching, guidance, and mentoring to all employees regarding Âé¶¹´«Ã½â€™s safety initiatives, policies, and procedures.
• Stays abreast of all necessary State and Federal rules and regulations.
• Performs safety training, and maintains training documentation.
• Assists with incident reporting and investigations.
• Assists with determination of corrective action to prevent reoccurrence of incidents.
• Establishes and conducts jobsite orientation for new associates.
• Inspects and maintains safety equipment.
• Assists with delivery of Safety Tool Box Talks, if requested.
• Assists management with OSHA inspections as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Working knowledge of safety/environmental principles and techniques.
• Good verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
• Ability to use time productively, maximize efficiency and meet challenging work goals.
• Ability to maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
• Must have an exceptional work ethic, uphold company values, and demand the highest standard of conduct from self and others.
• Working knowledge of computer programs (MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
• Ability to learn different software and programs.
• Ability to travel 2 to 3 weeks per month.
• Two or more years of field/jobsite safety experience
• OSHA 30 Hour Certification

SKILLS
• Strong background working with regulated substances such as lead, asbestos, hexavalent chromium, etc.• Working knowledge of safety/environmental principles and techniques.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
• A BCSO safety certification or a degree in Occupational Safety and Health, preferred.• Two or more years of field/jobsite safety experience
• OSHA 30 Hour Certification
